Bavaria and its Castles, an Overview

Blog, Photography

Today is about part of my Winter adventure, the Allgaeu in Germany with its famous Koenigsschloessern.

Lets jump right in! If you plan a visit to the castles Schloss Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, you will pass Fuessen, the small historical town situated on the Lech River and Dam, with its Klosterkirche St.Mang , Hohes Schloss and historical ‘Altstadt’ Center.

Here as in the rest of the area you can enjoy the serene small town and village feeling in a beautiful surrounding Landscape. There are much possibilities for outdoor activity from hiking to paragliding.

Shortly before entering Fuessen  Schloss Neuschwanstein comes in view, but following the winding road for the last part, Hohenschwangau will appear.

If you are deciding on looking inside Schloss Neuschwanstein Castle or Hohenschwangau, you will need a timed ticket at the booth. The times to get to the castles are well set, even thought you can reach Hohenschwangau in no time. Get the info before you arrive is the best way, especially if you plan on the Carriage ride 🙂 . There is a online booking option for the main visitor season.

Parking is available by entering the place, right before the Restaurant and Visitor info,  and all way back at the foot of Schloss Hohenschwangau.

Schloss Neuschwanstein stays the more famous, since its connection to Disney Lands Sleeping Beauty Castle that was based on it.

The way will take you uphill to the castle walls.  No Photography is allowed inside both Castles.

There is a grand view over the surrounding area, the Marienbruecke and to Schloss Hohenschwangau at the end of the tour out of the balcony. Always a beautiful scenery, but I was glad this day we had snow.

If you follow the base of the Castle you will reach the Marienbruecke, with the famous view on Schloss Neuschwanstein.

Back down to the tourist center, with its Shops and Restaurants, the view on Hohenschwangau, the older one of the castles, in which Koenig Ludwig II. grew up and became later the vision to build Schloss Neuschwanstein. Later he would observe the construction though his telescope. I love to hear his life story.

Passing Hohenschwangau Castle and the Parking space, you come to the Museum and reach the Alpsee.

With a beautiful winter cold evening end, the Alps, Bavarian landscape, the beauty in all season.
