This Year I again decided for a trip to the Lower Rio Grande Valley and South Padre Island. With the main season of bird watching absent and very hot weather, I enjoyed the clear water at the beach!
While further up the Gulf coast there were long lasting problems with flesh eating bacteria this year, the environment here is not favorable for them.
Passing Port Isabel with its beautiful light house (more coming soon), crossing the Queen Isabella Memorial Bridge named to honor the 8 victims of the 2001 collapse, and turning into the Padre Boulevard to the Vistor Info Center .
On view the biggest Sandcastle of South Padre Island by Andy Hancock, who teaches sand sculpure classes (sandcastlelessons.com) and inside the visitor center a new historical display.
Accessing the beach, there is abundant Marine Life to find, that inhabits the Ocean and the Laguna Madre.
…Tiny crabs crossing my way 🙂
….and the joy of a relaxed beach day.
On the variety of Restaurants, one of my favorite: Gabriellas’s Italian Grill & Pizzaria.
There is much to see, the Laguna Madre for birding, Dolphin tours,..
… beautiful sunsets…
…Port Isabel with its Lighthouse ..
…and the Brownsville Area, recommended in the cooler Season.
